As the weather starts to heat up, so too is sport, with Australia's favourite aquatic team sport returning and registrations now open for the 2020/21 season.
Open to children as young as five years old, water polo is one of the post popular team sports over summer, providing children of all ages and sizes the chance to enjoy pool based sport with their friends.
Water Polo’s top Olympians are calling on all young people to get active and sign up to their local water polo club.
Aussie Stingers captain and Dual Olympian, Rowie Webster, said water polo provides young people the chance to make new friends in a fun and exciting sport
“Water polo is a sport that so many people can enjoy because it doesn’t matter how tall or what size you are, there is a spot for everyone in a water polo team,” Webster said.
“The thing I enjoy most about the sport is that you’re part of a team and that team becomes great friends.”
“I’d encourage everyone to get down to their local club and sign up to play water polo this season,” she said.
More than 17,000 people from across the country signed up to play water polo last year, and Water Polo Australia CEO Richard McInnes says he hopes to see more people enjoying the sport this year.
“Water polo is a sport that can be played by everybody and every body,” McInnes said.
“Its synonymous with the Australian summer lifestyle and there are a wide range of competitions to suit everyone.”
“From our introductory program Flippaball, which we have waived the national fees on this season, right up to our premier men’s and women’s Australian Waterpolo League teams.
“There are so many ways you can get involved in water polo this summer, so find your local club and get active,” he said.
