In the countdown to the 2023 Water Polo Australia (WPA) Annual Awards, WPA is pleased to unveil the Hall of Fame inductees for 2021 and 2023.
The Water Polo Australia Hall of Fame recognises those individuals who have made an exceptional contribution over an extended period of time to water polo as a player, administrator, coach, referee or in another capacity.
WPA would like to honour Olympian and Olympic Coach John Fox who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Awards Night on Friday 28 April.
Before he embarked on a successful coaching career, Fox represented Australia at the Seoul and Barcelona Olympics as a player and amassed 383 national caps for Australia.
Upon retirement Fox turned his attention to coaching where he has extensive experience at all levels of the game, most notably with national teams.
Fox was the Head Coach of the senior men's team between 2007 – 2012 and he guided the team to 103 victories from 169 starts. He coached the team at two Olympic Games (Beijing 2008; London 2012), two World Championships, one World Cup and three World League Finals.
In 2007 and 2008 the team won a bronze medal at the World League Finals.
Fox coached the Australian Junior Men’s Team in 2007 and again in 2022 and was the coach of the Australian Student Games Team in 2001 and 2005. He currently coaches the Australian Cadet Men.
The two-time Olympian is giving off his time off the pool deck and was the President of ACT Water Polo from 2016-2018.
