Australian referees Nicola Johnson and Andrew Carney have been selected as referees for the World League Intercontinental Cup (WLICC) in Lima, Peru from 7 - 13 March 2022.
Johnson and Carney were recently appointed to the FINA Panel for 2022, alongside six other Australian referees (click here for full announcement).
Selection for the WLICC was based on performance at recent international events, with Johnson officiating at the Tokyo Olympic Games and Carney at the FINA Men’s World Junior Championships last year.
Water Polo Australia General Manager Performance Charles Turner offered his congratulations to Johnson and Carney on their selection.
“It is great that two of our Australian referees have been given the opportunity to officiate at the upcoming World League Intercontinental Cup in Peru,” Turner said.
“With international competition limited in the last two years, this will be a great chance for them to be back on the pool deck with their international colleagues, refereeing high quality water polo.
“On behalf of Water Polo Australia, I congratulate Nicola and Andrew on their appointment and wish them the best of luck,” he said.
The Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers teams for the World League Intercontinental Cup will be announced in the coming weeks.
