INAUGURAL KAP7 CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS DELIVERS THRILLING MATCH UP

Water Polo’s newest format, Beach Polo, was taken to a new level tonight with the inaugural KAP7 Clash of the Champions delivering a thrilling competition featuring Australia’s top Olympic athletes.

Considered the “T-20 of water polo”, the shortened format delivered the crowd a fast and ferocious match up, as the mixed teams format saw the KAP7 Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers play alongside each other.

Taking home the inaugural trophy was the Irukandji’s, captained by Aussie Stingers Bronte Halligan, who was thrilled to give the new format a crack.

“That was so exciting and such a fun event to be a part of, trying out a new flavour of our sport which was really fun,” Halligan said.

“Everyone played super well and all the teams gave it a red hot crack, it was a great atmosphere,” she said.

With international water polo not possible for the Aussie squads right now, the KAP7 Clash of the Champions provided a good opportunity to get in some much needed game time.

“I was stoked to put on the green and gold bathers again, we haven’t put them on since January,” Halligan said.

“KAP7 are such great supporters of Australian water polo and we can’t thank them enough for putting this event on,” she said.

Lining up alongside the Aussie Stingers and KAP7 Aussie Sharks were four lucky Water Polo NSW juniors.

“The young kids getting the exposure to play with the Sharks and Stingers was awesome and it was so great to have them part of our teams,” Halligan said.

“Props to them for giving it a go, I think they learnt a lot and they definitely brought all the energy,” she said.

Congratulations to KAP7 Australia for delivering a great new event. Stay tuned for all the catch up TV details.
