MASKING A SMILE. RIO OLYMPIAN SWITCHING SWIMMERS FOR MASKS

Published Thu 06 Aug 2020

One thing Olympic water polo athletes learn over the years is resilience, teamwork and the importance of resetting focus when life throws you a curveball.

It’s those qualities that have helped Rio Olympian Tyler Martin pivot his business operations to not only diversify his operations, but to also help those in need.

Since the start of COVID-19, Martin has successfully adapted his Delfina Sport business operations from swimwear to face masks… the new product so successful it’s been selling out faster than they can make them.

While the prospect of wearing masks has many people downtrodden, Martin has bought the Defina flair and trademark to facemasks… the bright, bold and often quirky designs bringing a smile to those who wear them.

Wanting to do his part to help those most in need, Martin has been providing free masks to frontline workers at hospitals as well as not for profit organisations such as Beyond Blue, Institute Urban Indigenous Health and Premature Birth NPO.

Delfina’s masks not only meet the DHHS recommendation to provide ideal protection, they are reusable, making them environmentally friendly.

The 30 year old Aussie Olympian turned business owner wants people to feel comfortable when adapting to the new normal the world is facing.

“The response has been overwhelming, which sadly is a sign of the times we are in at the moment. While these uncertain and tough times require a ‘new normal’, we wanted to allow people the chance to have some creative flair when wearing a mask.

“We have sold out of all our stock twice now with current levels heading that way as well. We were able to turn around almost 100,000+ masks in a matter of weeks!

“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive about the quality and turnaround time of the masks which is very pleasing for us.

“Our internal design team has collaborated with Aussie Artist Mulga who has created his own unique range as well, giving people the opportunity to customise their masks.

“We have donated masks to Beyond Blue, Taronga Zoo, Institute Urban Indigenous Health, Premature Birth charities, Asthma charities, and many more… we see it as our opportunity to give back and help those doing great things in this really trying time,” said Martin.

The small Australian business is doing their bit to not only support not-for-profit organisations, but bring a small smile to all those wearing a Delfina mask.
