Water Polo Australia can today confirm that Predrag Mihailovic will step down from his role as Head Coach of the Australian Women’s Water Polo team.

Mihailovic, who took over the Head Coach role in 2019, will finish with the program in the coming weeks after leading the Aussie Stingers at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

While the next Olympic cycle has already commenced, Water Polo Australia CEO, Richard McInnes, said the change will present an opportunity for the program to reset ahead of the next Olympic Games.

“Firstly I would firstly like to thank Predrag for his contribution to our women’s national program. During this last Olympic cycle he has served in both a Head Coach and Assistant Coach capacities but more than that has been part of our Australian team coaching system for many years, developing players coming through our ranks,” said McInnes.

“Water Polo Australia has already commenced its review into the Australian women’s water polo program and will look at how we can best support the program to achieve success on the international stage.

“WPA will commence a recruitment process for a new Coach immediately, looking for someone who can drive the next phase of our women’s program in driving innovation and creating world class structures that deliver a competitive edge.

“Water Polo in Australia already has a tremendous network and system through our Australian Water Polo League Clubs, National Age Group Coaches as well as support staff and personnel with significant expertise,” he said.

Recruitment process for the new Head Coach of the Australian Women’s Water Polo team will commence immediately.
