Australia’s premier water polo league will have a new look and new naming rights partner, OVO Mobile, with series to be rebranded ‘OVO Australian Waterpolo League’.

Previously known as the National Water Polo League, the rebrand is designed to fit with the growing number Water Polo Australia products as well as provide more commercial opportunities for the League and Clubs.

The timing also aligns with new naming rights partner OVO Mobile, who will broadcast live and exclusive coverage each weekend across the 12 week competition.

Water Polo Australia Competitions Manager, Matt Turnbull, said the new look League and partnership with OVO will give fans more connection to competition.

“We are thrilled to have OVO come on board to provide our water polo fans with access each weekend to different games and create a one-stop-shop for all the latest and exclusive content,” said Turnbull.

“The rebrand of the OVO Australian Waterpolo League is step one as part of our longer term competitions strategy to boost the profile and delivery of our pinnacle competition.

“We have a great product that will head into its 29th consecutive season and now we are taking steps to make it more commercially attractive and sustainable,” he said.

Chair of the newly formed Australian Waterpolo League Advisory Committee Peter Hughes (UWA Torpedoes), said the new League name and logo kicks off a number of changes to the series, designed to make it more appealing to fans and partners alike.

“The Advisory Committee working in conjunction with Water Polo Australia and all Clubs, wanted to create a new identity for the competition that allows us to start a new era of the League and grow our commercial offerings, while staying true to the proud history of the League.

“This is just one of the steps we are looking at to increase the overall attractiveness of the competition to commercial partners, fans as well as our Club members and players.

“We are lucky to have OVO on board as the naming rights partner to broadcast our competitions. With increased exposure through the digital broadcasting, along with a new look to the brand, we now need to identify how we can further improve our overall series,” said Hughes.

OVO will live stream one men’s and one women’s game each weekend, as well as all finals games in the 2018 OVO AWL season and offering exclusive content and replays on OVOPlay.

CEO for OVO Matt Jones said: “We are excited to have created a home for water polo content on OVOPlay, to allow fans, family and friends to catch the action from the OVO Australian Waterpolo League.

“Now everyone can watch live broadcasts via the OVOPlay app, getting free access to Water Polo Australia’s events plus plenty of other sports content.  And, if you have an OVO Mobile account, you can watch as much content as you like data-free,” he said.

The 2018 OVO Australian Water Polo League will kick off on the Saturday 3 February 2018.
