NSW teams were the big winners at the 2019 Australian Country Championships, taking out the men’s and women’s titles.
A total of eight regional teams, equating to 240 country players and officials, converged on the Miami Aquatic Centre on the Gold Coast for the four-day competition.
In the women’s event, NSW Blues overcame a competitive Queensland Maroon side to win the gold medal match 8-6. NSW were underdogs going into the game after they fell 4-8 to Queensland in their round match.
In the battle for bronze, NSW Waratahs defeated Western Australia 7-3.
In the men’s event, NSW Blues ensured a double victory to NSW with a 12-8 win over ACT.
The ACT fought hard in their semi-final to secure a spot in the gold medal match, defeating Qld Maroon by a single goal.
It was an all Queensland bronze medal final with the Maroon team defeating the Black team 9-6.
We take this opportunity to thank Water Polo Queensland and Gold Coast Water Polo for their involvement in a successful tournament.
