Aussie Sharks Assistant Coach Paul Oberman and Rio Olympian Keesja Gofers have been appointed on two Oceania Swimming Association (OSA) Committees.
OSA is the continental governing body recognised by FINA for the national governing bodies of aquatic sports in the Oceania region.
As part of their roles Oberman and Gofers will provide guidance and support to the member countries as well as a voice on the OSA Board.
Oberman was selected on the Oceania Swimming Association Coaches Committee thanks to his many years as senior and junior national coach across club, regional, state and national teams, including multiple Olympic Games.
Aussie Stingers veteran Keesja Gofers was appointed to the Oceania Swimming Association Athletes Committee. An experience Olympic water polo player with more than 170 international caps to her name, she is well placed to communicate the needs of current and future water polo players.
WPA High Performance Manager Aleksandr Osadchuk says it is great for Australian water polo to have a strong presence on both international committees.
“This is great recognition of their knowledge and a good opportunity to positively contribute to water polo development in the Oceania region.
“Both Paul and Keesja have a wealth of knowledge and experience and are well placed to help progress water polo interest through the Oceania Swimming Association,” he said.
Oberman and Gofers are among a list of highly credentialed Australians on international committees including:
- Don Cameron – FINA Technical Water Polo Committee
- Elvis Fatovic – FINA Coaching Committee
- Aleksandr Osadchuk – FINA Development Committee
- Russell McKinnon – FINA Media Committee
- Peter Kerr - FINA Doping Panel
