After a thrilling opening weekend of the 2020 OVO Australian Waterpolo League, all 10 teams will take to pools across the country for round two.
This weekend’s featured game on OVO Play will see theHunter Hurricanes at home to the Queensland Thunder. Saturday’s match will be played at the stunning Queens Wharf Harbour in Newcastle - for more details, click here.
Both teams come in to round two with matches under their belt having contested last weekend’s opening round. The Queensland Thunder managed to win three out of their four matches on home soil, while the Hunter Hurricanes will be looking to bounce back after disappointing losses to Drummoyne Devils.
Dual Olympian Daniel Marsden is coaching the Hunter Hurricanes men’s side, commenting that last week's losses have not affected the team, but instead given them the motivation they need for this weekend.
“Drummoyne are one of the benchmark teams - we tried a lot of things and had some successes,” Marsden said.
“For some of the guys it was their first national league game, so there’s obviously a few things we need to improve on but all in all the morale is high heading into round two this weekend,” he said.
Marsden said that the focus for his team this weekend will be to play to their home ground advantage and capitalise on the opportunities they create for themself.
“We’ve had a good three months together (in the pre-season) to formulate our style of play,” Marsden said.
“We generated more than a dozen extra man and penalty opportunities last weekend, so we’ve really just got to make the most of those opportunities against the Thunder.”
Marsden said that they will be looking to put a stop to Queensland Thunder’s Olympian Billy Miller, who was unstoppable in round one scoring four goals.
“Billy (Miller) is their main danger man and will be the biggest threat for them in the water,” Marsden said.
“But if we go out there and work hard, we can make things happen for ourselves and it should make for some great games.”
The Hunter Hurricanes-Queensland Thunder feature games will be streamed LIVE on www.play.ovo.com.au or can be watched via the OVO Play App from 1:00PM AEDT on Saturday 1 February.
