The official name of the new look team of the OVO Australian Waterpolo League was today unveiled in Brisbane – with the team to be known as the ‘Queensland Thunder’.

The new look Queensland Thunder will make their debut in the 2019 OVO AWL on February 2nd against the Hunter Hurricanes at the Valley Pool.

Triple Olympian and captain of the women’s team, Bronwen Knox, said, she can already start to see how the teams coming together will benefit the development of talent in Queensland.

“We continue to produce talented athletes here in Queensland and we now have a platform with the Queensland Thunder to showcase this week on week in Australia’s top water polo competition”, said Knox.

“Both the men and women have young teams, but with that they bring a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm and for the experienced players it’s our role to mentor them throughout the season as they take the step up into the AWL.”

“Our goal is to create an environment where we’re fighting for a place in the team and in having that competition between each other this makes everyone strive to a higher standard week in week out,” she said.

Kicking off on the 1 February, the OVO Australian Waterpolo League is the country’s premier water polo competition and will be staged across 11 rounds with the finals series to be held from 3-5 May 2019.

Action will be shown throughout the series across OVO Play which fans are able to download the APP to get all the action from the series.
