ROAD TO PERTH: UTS BALMAIN TIGERS READY TO ROAR
Published Thu 05 Jan 2023
With only four days to go until the water polo community arrives in Perth for the 2023 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships, there are many juniors across the country buzzing with excitement.
One of those is Abbey O’Neill from UTS Balmain Tigers in Sydney, who cannot wait to get to Perth.
O’Neill is a member of the 18&U Girls team, who finished second at the 2022 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships. But in 2023, they’re focus is only on one thing…gold.
“We are a very close knit team that has been together since the beginning of our water polo journeys,” O’Neill said.
“We are so excited to have a change of scenery and we are ready to take on the new state of Western Australia.
“Our goal for the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships is to bond as a team, and hopefully end up with gold!” she said.
The 2023 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships has given junior water polo players across the country plenty to look forward to, with not only the opportunity to play themselves but also to watch their Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers heroes in action in the Tri Nations Water Polo Test Match Series.
“We are so excited to watch and learn from the Aussie teams playing in Perth,” O’Neill said.
“It gives us a new insight into how to play different styles of water polo, and we’re really looking forward to it.
“We’ve also been working really hard as a team, going through our tactics and making sure everything is ready so we can be at our best for our competition as well,” she said.
