20&U teams from across the country went head to head at the Valley Pool and Musgrave Swim Centre today, with plenty of tough battles and close games to go around.

The 20&U state teams are this week joined by three Barbarians teams, made up of members of the Australian Youth Men’s and Women’s squads, following the National Age Group camps last week.

Lulu Elliott is this week donning the green and gold, having represented the gold medal winning Queensland in the 18&U competition last week, and is excited to have another playing opportunity.

“We’re all pretty tired, it’s been a big couple of days but we’ve been training a lot in the lead up so we’re all quite fit,” Elliott said.

“It’s really good to be back in an Australian squad environment - it’s been a while.

“There’s new girls which is great, and I always love seeing my friends and teammates from interstate.

“Working with all the different coaches from around the country has been so great. We had Paul (Oberman) with us in camp last week, and we’ve got Taryn (Woods) as our coach here this week.

“Taryn has so much wisdom, and it’s amazing to be able to learn from her. She’s calm, collected and really articulate in getting the message across,” she said.

As a Queenslander, Elliott said she has enjoyed welcoming everyone to her own backyard.

“It’s a lot of fun being here in Brisbane - the pools we know, and it’s people we know,” Elliott said.

“It’s great to have a national competition right here in our own backyard,” she said.
