Water Polo Australia CEO Richard McInnes said he was thrilled to see Aussie juniors back in the pool.
“It’s been a long time since we have been able to hold a national level event and we are pleased to see participants embracing our guidelines so we can ensure we deliver the event safely,” McInnes said,
“We are really fortunate to have our Aussie Stingers and Sharks coaches poolside as well, watching the next generation of talent coming through our ranks.
“Overall it has been a great first day and no doubt a sign of more exciting matches to come,” he said.
Among those diving back into competition was Queensland Maroons 16&U representative Phoebe Cervetto, who was stoked to play again.
“The first day was really good, we got two from two wins, which is a really great way for us to start,” Cervetto said.
“We haven’t played other states in a while so it was good to get out there and see how our team came together.
“We have two more round games tomorrow, we’re playing barbarians in the afternoon which will be tough as it's a mix of the younger Queensland and New South Wales girls.
“And we’ve also got our eyes on that gold medal, but also just enjoying coming together as a team and getting the opportunity to play against other teams again.
“It’s a good week to gain experience at this level, and we’re so excited,” she said.
