Sydney to host Stingers vs China test matches

The Aussie Stingers are set to host China at Sydney Olympic Park as part of a training camp and two game test match series next month.

The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre will host the two test matches on 11 and 12 August, as both sides will be eager for a hit out ahead of the FINA World Cup later this year.

Rio Olympian and Sydney Uni Lions stalwart Hannah Buckling, said it is exciting to have an Aussie Stingers international test match back in Sydney.

“Sydney Olympic Park is a pretty special venue for us to play in given the history it holds with the ‘Golden Girls’ from the Sydney Olympic Games,” said Buckling.

“Personally I’m looking forward to having an international test match in my home city… it will be very exciting.”

It has been a busy start to the year for the Aussie Stingers with two international tours which included the FINA World League Super Final.  But with the World Cup on the horizon, Buckling said the side will look to get in important game time ahead of the next tour.

“This will be the first time the team is back together since our European tour and we’ll be keen test our systems as we build for the World Cup.

“China is a side you can never underestimate.  They key for us is focusing on our style of play and our strategies.

“We are a team that has come along in leaps and bounds this year… but we have a long term vision and that’s what we’re working towards,” she said.

The international test matches provided local fans the rare opportunity to see the Australian team in action.

Tickets will be available at the gate with more details to come.
