With just over 40 days to go, teams across the country are starting to get excited about heading to Western Australia’s capital Perth for the 2023 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC).
The AYWPC will return in January, and for the first time since its inception in 2019 will make its way to the west coast.
The 2023 event will also feature an international test match series between the Aussie Sharks, Aussie Stingers, USA women and Japan men, providing a unique opportunity for the next generation to get up close and personal with their national heroes.
Tasmanian 16&U Boys team manager Matt Byrne said the Tri Nations Series is something his team are really looking forward to.
“It is amazing to have the test matches coinciding with the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships competition and what a great chance for the boys to see the best of the best in action,” Byrne said.
“There could be no better ‘out of the pool’ training spectacle for the boys than to see the players and their skills in performing at the elite level,” he said.

It’s not only the out of the pool action that the Tasmanian boys are looking forward to, but putting their off season training and hard work into practice.
“To be selected to play for Tasmania and in doing so, being granted the opportunity to wear your state colours in the pool is a very big honour for the boys and one which makes them all very proud to be involved in this competition,” Byrne said.
“To be travelling to Western Australia to represent Tasmania is obviously a very exciting time for the team, who will not only be excited about playing their best water polo at this competition but also about travelling to a much warmer climate than home and seeing all that WA has to offer.
“The boys goals are to play both competitive and fair water polo at the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.
“But above all else, it is to also enjoy the experience and to savour the many rewarding experience that come with traveling away as a team.
“All of these goals come together to define what this Tasmanian team stands for, and what it’s values are both in and out of the pool,” he said.
The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships are set to be held from 9-19 January 2023, with teams from across the country converging on Perth for 11 days of water polo fun and action. More information about the 2023 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships can be found HERE
