Published Fri 20 Jul 2018
Ian Chesterman, Chef de Mission of the Australian Tokyo 2020 Team, today welcomed the release of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games competition schedule.
“The schedule release brings into focus for our athletes, their coaches and supporters the goal of competing at Tokyo 2020,” Chesterman said.
“With a record 33 sports and 339 events across 42 venues, the schedule highlights what an incredible two weeks of competition Tokyo 2020 will be.”
AOC Chief Executive Officer Matt Carroll said that with the complete schedule is now settled, Tokyo 2020 offers Australians a viewer-friendly Olympic experience across all sports.
“Given the small time difference between Australia and Japan, this is in some ways a home Games. This will be a sports lovers’ nirvana that we can all experience without climbing out of bed early in the morning to see our Olympians competing."
Water Polo Australia CEO Christian Renford said this will be an exciting time for all sports, including water polo, to really connect with fans.
"Every four years our Aussie Stingers and Aussie Sharks represent us proudly at the Olympic Games, but it is not always the case that we get to follow along with the games live due to different time zones.
"Tokyo 2020 will provide a great opportunity for our family, friends and supporters to follow the Olympic journey with our teams," he said.
Day 8 of competition, dubbed ‘Super Saturday’, will feature 23 sports, including the new mixed team triathlon event and mixed team trap shooting as well as athletics.
