Update from first Water Polo Australia Webinar

Published Wed 30 Oct 2019

The Water Polo Australia (WPA) Board together with CEO Joelie Chisholm, last week held a webinar to discuss with the community all the activities happening within the sport as well as answer questions about the future of water polo in Australia.

Thank you to all those who participated. These forums are designed to give our water polo community direct access to the WPA Board and leadership team so you can get the most accurate information.

The WPA Board is passionate about moving the sport forward and ensuring its long-term growth and sustainability for the future, combined with providing the best experiences possible for the community.

As part of the conversations with the community, it became clear that many members of the community did not feel informed on the current state of the governance reform, nor had a clear understanding of the governance structure of water polo in Australia. This was a primary motivator for introducing the webinars, as the Board recognised this is a complex matter and needs clarity.

During the session, the Board provided a summary of the governance reform process to date, detailing the consequences impacting funding and highlighting the key dates for future updates.

The case for change was discussed before the Board answered questions from the water polo community around the allocation of funding to the States, high performance funding and how Club members can contribute to the governance reform process.

The WPA Board will look to continue to provide ongoing updates around key issues and topics via further webinars, dedicated Governance Reform communications (click here) as well as regular WPA communications tools.

But you don’t need to wait until the next webinar to make your voice heard! Water Polo Australia encourages all members to reach out to their Club committees, State Boards or the WPA Board directly if you have questions or want to have your say.
