Water Polo Australia is pleased to announce Tim Welsford as the Acting CEO, following on from Richard McInnes departure to the Australian Sports Commission.
Mr Welsford will assume the role from 31 July, with Mr McInnes final day with the organisation to be 28 July.
Currently Tim serves as Water Polo Australia’s General Manager - Sport Development, a role he has held since October 2021.
WPA President, Trent Birkett, said the organisation will benefit from an extended handover period between Mr Welsford and Mr McInnes.
“Firstly I would like to acknowledge again the significant contribution Richard has made during his time as CEO, improving our sport’s governance, increasing commercial arrangements and elevating our reputation as a sport.
“Whilst as a sport we are disappointed to lose Richard, we are pleased we will not lose him to the industry and look forward to working with him in his role at Australian Sports Commission.
“The Board is pleased to appoint Tim Welsford as Acting CEO, following his successful tenure with our sport as General Manager - Sport Development.
“Since joining Water Polo in 2021, Tim has led some of our major projects, including Project 10X and the changes to the Learning and Development system.
“He also brings to the role more than 20 years of experience in the sports industry including roles with Tennis NSW, Southern Cross University and YMCA Victoria.”
