Water Polo Australia launches The Whistle Blower

Published Tue 28 Apr 2020

Water Polo Australia will be launching The Whistle Blower series from next Monday 4 May, designed to educate, inform and entertain the water polo community.

But the question on everyone’s lips… who is the Whistle Blower? We have been teasing you on social media for the last week but now we can unveil the Whistle Blower is in fact our new show designed to educate our water polo community about the rules, the plays and intricate details of water polo.

The platform will allow for the water polo community to hear from those that referee the games  to ‘get talking’ about water polo.

WPA Referee Director Phillip Bower said it’s incredibly important for the water polo community to stay connected.

“The current situation has thrown a bit of a curve ball at us all, and The Whistle Blower was an idea we had to not only get the community talking about water polo but also get the community talking to each other,” Bower said.

“We wanted a way to bring the water polo fraternity together, but also be able to educate them about the new rules, inform them of any water polo related news and entertain them with the stories from our guests.

“Who should tune in? Anyone with an interest in the game and a real want to understand water polo better,” he said.

The first guest in episode one will be John Whitehouse, Water Polo Australia life member, long standing FINA Technical Committee member and the only Australian referee to be appointed to an Olympic gold medal match.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity for people to get to know John - we’ll find out about his journey with water polo, ask him some questions and reminisce about some of the times he’s had as an international referee,” Bower said.

The Whistle Blower will be broadcast via Zoom, with a new episode and new guests each fortnight.

Make sure you tune in Monday 4 May at 8pm, or visit The Whistle Blower page to catch up.
