WATER POLO AUSTRALIA OPENS APPLICATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Published Fri 09 Sep 2022
Water Polo Australia is pleased to introduce the Professional Development (PD) Scholarship program, which will be piloted in 2022.
The PD Scholarship program is available to current senior squad and National Age Group Program members, as well as senior squad members from the past two years.
The program is designed to offer athletes professional development opportunities, and could include university degrees, vocational courses, short course or micro-credentials, virtual internships, registration or licensing, as well as flights and accommodation to complete any of the above.
The total funding pool of $10,000 is available for allocation in year one, proudly supported by PKF Sydney and WPA Alumnus Nick Falzon.
Water Polo Australia CEO Richard McInnes thanked Nick and PKF for their support.
“On behalf of Water Polo Australia and our Alumni Program, I’d like to thank Nick and the team at PKF for their support of this program,” McInnes said.
“It is extremely important for our athletes to be pursuing opportunities outside of the pool in parallel with their water polo careers, and having the backing of PKF to be able to do so is invaluable,” he said.
Falzon said he is excited to be working closely with WPA on this initiative, and supporting his fellow WPA Alumni.
“We are extremely excited to partner with Water Polo Australia to bring the Professional Development Scholarship program to life,” Falzon said.
“Water polo has a proud tradition of achieving tremendous success both in and out of the pool.
“When I was young, I was inspired by many of the top players that were among the best in the world but also achieving so much in their studies and careers outside of the pool.
“Athletes develop so many skills during their sporting career that benefit them in their life after elite sport.
“Our aim is that the PD Scholarship program will help the athletes in completing formal training which will help in leveraging a career after elite sport,” he said.
Applications are now open for the initial intake of the PD Scholarship Program, and will close on September 30 2022. To apply, CLICK HERE
