WATER POLO AUSTRALIA CONFIRMS NATIONAL AGE GROUP PROGRAM COACHES FOR 2023-24

Water Polo Australia is pleased to confirm the National Age Group Program (NAGP) Coaches through until the FINA World Championships in 2024.

With the 19&U National State Championships and Australian Youth Water Polo Championships fast approaching, the NAGP coaches will hit the ground running in preparation for a number of tours and camps in the near future.

The Australian Junior programs will be led by Vedran Cirkovic (men’s) and Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medalist Jo Clark (women’s).

Andras Jo-Kovacs (men’s) and Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medalist Taryn Woods (women’s) will take the helm of the Australian Youth programs.

The youngest age group, the Australian Cadet programs, will be headed up by dual Olympian John Fox (men’s) and Georgina Kovacs-Muller (women’s). 

WPA General Manager - Performance Charles Turner said he was impressed with the calibre of coaches who will be part of the 2024 program.

“I’d like to congratulate all six head coaches of our National Age Group Program for 2023 and 2024,” Turner said.

“We had more than triple the amount of applicants for these positions than when we recruited in 2020, which is a true testament to the development of this program over the last 18 months in particular.

“This group of coaches has a wealth of knowledge and experience among them, and will be tasked with helping to develop the next generation of Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers.

“2023 and 2024 are shaping up to be two big years for our National Age Group Programs, and I look forward to working closely with this group of coaches through the next cycle,” he said.

WPA have also selected a coaching panel for both the women’s and men’s programs, implemented to expose more coaches to the NAGP and allowing them an opportunity to take their coaching to the next level.
