Water Polo Australia welcomes the announcement today by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Sports Commission that $283 million will be invested into high performance sport for the next two years.

With the Paris Olympic Games fast approaching, today's announcement is welcome news, with eyes to beyond Paris, and work for the LA 2028 Olympic cycle already commencing.

Water Polo Australia CEO Tim Welsford said today’s announcement is a positive step forward for Australian sport.

“While all eyes are on our Paris campaign that gets underway in just 28 days, our high performance team is already looking beyond 2024, and what our strategy is for the next Olympic cycle.

"We want to thank the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Sports Commission for today's announcement for support of high performance sport as we begin that work towards LA 2028.

“Today’s announcement is a positive step forward, as we continue to look at our funding opportunities and how today’s announcement can support not only our current high performance programs, but also our talent ID programs towards Brisbane 2032.

“We look forward to working with the Australian Sports Commission, through the Australian Institute of Sport to leverage the funding and identify strategies for further collaboration across all areas of high performance," he said.
