2025 AUSTRALIAN WATERPOLO LEAGUE – WEEKEND 7 WRAP

Another historic Australian Waterpolo League (AWL) milestone was achieved  as Week 7 of the 2025 season was played over the weekend.

UNSW MAGPIES/KILLERWHALES  v HUNTER HURRICANES

The UNSW Wests teams produced dominating performances over the Hunter Hurricanes as the two sides faced off for the first time since round 1.

In the women’s game, a goal scoring master class by Killerwhales’ captain Daisy Carter, guided the home side to a 16-14 victory over the Hurricanes.  

In the men’s games, it was a goal scoring affair as the Magpies walked away with a 23-9 victory over the Hurricanes. 

 

CRONULLA SHARKS v UTS BALMAIN TIGERS

In this week’s local derby it was the Cronulla Sharks and the UTS Balmain Tigers who went head to head in Sydney. 

In the men’s games, the Sharks claimed a 15-12 victory at home before the Tigers hit back on Sunday at the Dawn Fraser Baths to win 10-6.

In the women’s games, the Sharks on Saturday walked away the league points after a tight 10-9 victory, before the Tigers returned serve on Sunday winning 15-4.  

 

VICTORIAN PHOENIX v SYDNEY UNI LIONS 

It was an historic weekend of matches for the Sydney Uni Lions as they headed down to Melbourne to take on the Victorian Phoenix. 

In the men’s games, not only did the visitors record 21-12 and 10-8  victories over the Phoenix, but Lions player Billy Miller became the highest male goal scorerin AWL history after scoring four goals over the weekend to bring his goal scoring tally to 808. 

In the women’s game,  the second placed Lions continued their run of good form defeating Phoenix 20-5 on Saturday and 16-9 on Sunday. 

 

GRIFFITH UNI QUEENSLAND THUNDER v UWA TORPEDOES 

The UWA Torpedoes flew to Brisbane this weekend for a double header against the Griffith Uni Queensland Thunder. 

In the women’s games, the Thunder remained undefeated after recording comfortable victories over the Torpedoes – winning 15-8 on Saturday and 16-4 on Sunday. 

In the men’s game, the Torpedoes showed once again why they occupy the top spot of the league ladder, defeating the homeside 19-13 on Saturday and 16-12 on Sunday.
