Water Polo Australia is pleased to announce the 14 athletes selected to represent Australia at the U18 Men’s Water Polo World Championships.
Being staged in Rio Maior, Portugal, from 27 June through until 4 July, Head Coach John Fox will lead a team of 14 athletes who have earnt selection off the back of training camps and competitions over the last 12 months.
Fox said he’s proud to confirm the team, and is looking forward to how they can continue to develop over the coming months in the build up to the World Championships.
“This is the culmination of four years of work with these guys – we started in 2022 just after COVID,” Fox said.
“I’ve taken this age group through U16s and now U18s, and along the journey we’ve had a number of players in the squad. It’s made for a hard selection process, but this group has a lot of talent and depth.
“This group are really starting to gel, and they’re playing as a team so it’s a really exciting time going to Portugal and looking forward to seeing how we go.
“Any World Championships is a great experience. It’s going to be tough, there are good teams that we’ll likely play in the first few days such as the Netherlands, Germany, even Turkey,” he said.
