Australian Team Locked In for the U16 Women’s World Championships

30 Apr 2026

Water Polo Australia is thrilled to confirm the 14 athletes selected for the Australian team for the U16 Women’s Water Polo World Championships.

Zagreb, Croatia will host the Championships from 25-31 July with many athletes making their international debut.

Coaches Harry Sanderson and Melissa Rippon are looking forward to seeing the team take on nations from around the world in their first taste of international water polo.

“We will head into two smaller residential camps at the AIS, before heading overseas and training in Croatia for three weeks with a number of different European countries,” Sanderson said.

“It will be a phenomenal experience for the girls and a privilege to expose these very young athletes to the Stinger’s identity and brand of playing water polo,” he said.

Rippon said it’s been a long journey for the girls selected, and is sure they will wear the green and gold with pride.

“There’s been so much great talent and the girls have worked really hard and taken the feedback on board. We are really excited and looking forward to seeing where we can take this squad,” Rippon said.

On the heels of the historic bronze medal from two years ago, this team is out to build on the legacy of Australian women’s water polo.
