28 Aug 2018

Water Polo Australia Board can confirm that CEO Christian Renford has stepped down from his role for personal reasons and will finish with the organisation on Friday 31 August.

Christian announced his resignation after two years leading WPA post the Rio Olympic Games in which time he oversaw an ambitious transformation strategy for the organisation including online broadcasting, digital and membership reform and launching the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.

Water Polo Australia President Thomas Whalan thanked Christian for his contribution to the sport.

“On behalf of the Water Polo Australia Board we would like to thank Christian for his tireless contribution to the sport since joining us in 2016.

“During his time he has led a number of major projects including the launching of the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships along with the changes in how we deliver digital solutions for members, officials and coaches.

“We wish Christian all the very best for the future,” said Whalan.

Recruitment for the Chief Executive Officer role will commence immediately.  Until such time, Finance Manager, Cara O’Neill will fill the position of Acting General Manager to provide day to day operational management.
