Water Polo Australia (WPA) is disappointed to advise that China is no longer able to take part in the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks training camp and test series slated for this month.
WPA were advised over the weekend by the Chinese Swimming Federation that they are unable to attend due to unforeseen administrative requirements.
While it is disappointing that the tests will not proceed as planned, the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks will still be holding a training camp and will play ‘Australia Green vs Australia Gold’ matches that will be open to the public.
The first match will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Sunday 14th December.
Sydney will then host back-to-back test matches at two local water polo clubs Sutherland Leisure Centre on 21 December and Dawn Fraser Baths on 23 December.
The matches will still afford fans a chance to see the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks in action as they continue to prepare for the 2026 World Aquatics World Cup Finals that will be held in Sydney.
WPA High Performance Director said: “Naturally we are very disappointed that China has withdrawn at the last minute and we know fans who purchased tickets will also be disappointed.
“But our extended training squad will allow us the opportunity to deliver Australia green vs gold matches, giving fans the opportunity to see the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks up close.
“The boys have been training hard at home for the last few months, following the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
“Our training camp will continue as we continue to build towards the massive World Cup in Sydney in July 2026!” he said.
