The Water Polo Australia Board is pleased to confirm the extension of Chief Executive Officer Tim Welsford’s contract through until March 2029.
Welsford was appointed the CEO in June 2023, and will continue to lead the organisation through until after the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
WPA President Trent Birkett said Welsford’s leadership has been invaluable to the organisation, and he’s pleased to extend his contract as the organisation looks to continue to grow under the new Strategic Plan.
“The WPA Board is pleased to extend CEO Tim Welsford’s contract through until March 2029,” Birkett said.
“Our 2024-2032 High Performance Strategy has been designed to build, lead and deliver a system that provides the environments to sustainably enable our Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers to Win Well when it matters, and Tim is the right leader to guide our organisation through until after the LA 2028 Olympic Games,” he said.
Welsford said: “I’m incredibly honoured that the Board has placed their trust in me to continue leading Water Polo Australia.
“We’ve made significant progress over the past few years, and I’m excited to build on that momentum as we grow our sport at every level.
“Water polo in Australia has such an exciting future. From grassroots programs to international competition, I’m committed to working with our community, partners, and stakeholders to ensure our sport thrives well beyond the next Olympic cycle,” he said.
